At Newton International Academy Barwa, our curriculum is built upon the foundations of the National Curriculum for England and is tailored to meet the needs of an international student body. We offer a strong emphasis on STEM education, with dedicated pathways in Science, Technology, Humanities, Languages and Mathematics from Key Stage 3 through to A Level. Students benefit from a wide range of subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business, Economics History, Geography, Environmental Management, ICT (including AI topics), Computer Science, English, French, Arabic, Arts, Statistics, Islamic, Qatar History, Citizenship and PE, all of which are supported by specialist teaching and modern facilities. In addition, we provide unique subject options such as Human Biology, Travel and Tourism, Enterprise, Global Perspectives, Psychology, Photography and Thinking Skills, enabling learners to explore diverse interests and future career paths.
One of the curriculum’s greatest strengths is its flexibility and breadth, allowing students to discover and pursue their individual strengths. Whether through modular or linear assessment routes, fast-track programmes, or tailored EAL support for language learners, students are given multiple pathways to succeed. A strong emphasis on PSHE, Global Citizenship, and values-based education (integrating both British and Qatari values) ensures that academic achievement is paired with personal growth, wellbeing, and character development. This balanced, holistic approach empowers students not only to excel in their studies but to thrive as responsible, confident, and globally aware individuals.
The Key Stage 3 curriculum builds on the experiences students have had at Primary level. Our aim is to maintain the strengths of the primary approach as we introduce teaching by subject specialists. In particular, we want our students to use their skills across the curriculum and not to confine them to the subject in which they happen to be learned.
Twelve subjects are offered : English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, History, Geography, French, Arabic, Islamic Studies or Citizenship, P.E., Art, PSHE (Personal, Social & Health Education), and English, Science and Mathematics are taught each day of the academic week.
Within the structure of the National Strategies, the Programmes of Study sets out what students should be taught, and the attainment target sets out the expected standards of students’ performance. The aim of Key Stage 3 is to focus upon the practical development of the skills needed to develop the students to become successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve; confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives and responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society.
The Key Stage 4 curriculum comprising of Year 10 and Year 11 allows students to the opportunity to work towards their IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations. As the students begin to take responsibility for their own learning, they can make some subject choices of courses that may be of interest to them. They will take examinations in the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science as well as their chosen subjects as they begin to consider and pave their future educational paths and preferences for areas of study.
